OUR APPROACH
Sustainable practices are integral to our approach. We support our clients in the early stages and beyond from feasibility through to detailed design services.
Our decarbonisation efforts adopt a holistic approach, extending beyond MEP services installation. This, coupled with a pragmatic approach, delivers projects with minimal carbon emissions and services solutions that are inherently sustainable, by design.
OUR ROLE IN HITTING NET ZERO
Delivering the best possible service to our clients is a cornerstone for Fluent MEP, but doing so in a sustainable manner is key to our philosophy.
It is now well known that the construction industry is facing a mammoth task to tackle climate change, and that radical improvements are required to reduce carbon emissions in the rapidly decreasing time left to hit Net Zero.
We need to work collaboratively across the built environment to effectively action the changes required to reduce carbon emissions, the responsibility of which we take very seriously.
Our decarbonisation efforts adopt a holistic approach, extending beyond MEP services installation. Fluent MEP is dedicated to sustainability, integrating it into every aspect of our operations and services to ensure we contribute positively to the fight against climate change.

We offer feasibility studies to help determine the most viable and effective way to approach a project, whether it's a new build, refurbishment or retrofit. We take a pragmatic approach to deliver projects with minimal carbon emissions and services solutions that are inherently sustainable, by design.
OUR APPROACH
HOW DO WE DO IT?
Everyone has a part to play with the journey to net-zero carbon emissions and as a part of the construction industry, we recognise our responsibility in achieving this. We strive to champion the sustainable agenda, so that building as sustainably as possible is not a selective process, but second nature.

SUSTAINABILITY, AS STANDARD
SUSTAINABILITY
Whilst we understand the importance of correctly sizing a system and its components, particularly to provide the adaptability for future climate extremes, we do this in concert with simple yet effective steps.
our COMPANY ETHOS

-
Our laptops and phones are reconditioned, eliminating nearly 92% of the carbon emissions associated with buying brand new tech.
-
Purchasing goods and services from certified B Corp companies or those who have pledged and demonstrated high standards of social and environmental commitments.
-
Default all work and personal browsers to Ecosia.com - a search engine that uses its profits to fund tree-planting projects, restoring biodiversity, fighting climate change, and supporting local communities in over 35 countries globally.
-
Wherever possible, using public transport for site visits and face-to-face meetings, and where this isn’t viable, offsetting our emissions using verified carbon offset projects.
-
Recording and reporting our Scope 1 and 2 emissions on an annual basis, with a target of carbon neutrality by 2026 and carbon negative by 2030.
-
Using energy providers that provide 100% renewable electricity and offset associated emissions from natural gas consumption.
Not only do we look to impact changes through our MEP services to clients but also on a company and individual basis. From the inception of Fluent MEP, we have committed to minimising our carbon footprint through various actions:
Not only do we look to impact changes through our MEP services to clients but also on a company and individual basis. From the inception of Fluent MEP, we have committed to minimizing our carbon footprint through various actions:
FABRIC FIRST APPROACH
Starting with a fabric first approach often yields significant results in energy performance, without incurring large capital costs, but ‘quick wins’ can sometimes be overlooked. We actively identify and raise potential opportunities for further exploration to ensure maximum efficiency.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL
In our services design we strongly believe that on many occasions, keeping it simple can be just as effective as using the latest technology or complex controls solutions. It may not sound cutting edge, but we are mindful in our designs down to the smallest detail.
ENGINEER-LED FEASIBILITY STUDIES
Our design engineer background gives us an edge in feasibility studies, enabling us to assess decarbonisation possibilities practically. Whether it be sizing of a solar PV array and giving consideration for inverter locations, co-ordination with existing services and allowance for maintenance access, or if building envelope improvements impact upon the indoor air quality and ventilation requirements. We look at the viability of these in all aspects to ensure recommendations can be fully implemented.
PRAGMATIC APPROACH
Whilst in an ideal world we would always look to move away from natural gas or oil fired systems for electrification of a building, sometimes this isn’t possible due to lack of electrical capacity or initial capital costs. In which case alternative and phased solutions can be explored such as bivalent systems, which combine existing fossil fuelled systems with low carbon technologies such as heat pumps.

Whilst we understand the importance of correctly sizing a system and its components, particularly to provide the adaptability for future climate extremes, we do this in concert with simple yet effective steps.
-
Rationalising pipe runs and ductwork to minimise material use, whilst still meeting the required performance criteria.
-
Taking the time to appropriately size equipment to ensure maximum performance with minimum redundancy or oversizing, saving space, materials, capital and running costs.
-
Implementing controls that are simple yet effective to ensure that end users are able to understand and use systems in an efficient manner.
-
Engaging with manufacturers to ask about environmentally conscious practises from manufacture to packaging and delivery.
